LRB in the late 80s
I think that Monsoon is a very interesting and enjoyable album, and one that Little River Band (LRB) fans will need to get their hands on. Like other late 80s LRB records, this is not as progressive as the earlier material (e.g., the self-titled debut, Diamantina Cocktail, or Sleeper Catcher) and lacks the fusion jazz elements that those albums held. I also prefer the fidelity of the earlier albums with all real drums, brass, and a comparatively minimalistic approach. There are, however, some catchy heights in Monsoon that deserve a fan's attention. Probably my favourite track on the album is "Love is a bridge", an obvious hit. Some other inspirational moments occur in "Soul searching", "It's cold out tonight", and a re-do of "Face in the crowd" with Glen Shorrock's distinctive vocals. For those of you who have heard the LRB album "Get Lucky" (that's the one with the cheezy cover art), Monsoon is quite similar in orientation. Take home story: For newcomers to LRB, I would initially choose one of their earlier albums. However, this CD is a must for LRB fans and an album that will inspire interest. It's one of those CDs that you can listen to regularly without tiring of it.
