The printhead is great, but the ink only works in a brand new printer.

Both the printhead and the ink cartridges were brand new in packaging. The printhead installed easily and worked as expected. However, the ink cartridges only work in printers that have not had any other starter ink cartridges put into them. In other words they only work for brand new printers, and if you have a brand new printer why would you be buying a printhead? As such, you won't be able to use the ink so buying just a printhead is the smart move.
