Fantastic replacement for a Dyson DC01
This vacuum is much lighter, and easier to manouevre, than my old Dyson DC01, and has very strong suction - which may be too much for older users, as it clings to the carpet and you have to put more effort into pushing and pulling it, but the results are fantastic. The hose unclips very easily and the tools fit on the back of the vacuum, and clip onto the house with ease. The hose itself isn't as long as the Dyson DC01's, so I am considering buying an extension hose for it, but the Vax is so light I can easily carry it with one hand if I need to get the hose onto the back of the sofa, or onto the bed, etc. It has a power button and a button to turn the brush bar on and off, so you can turn off the brush bar when using the hose, this is a really useful feature. I also like the fact that the brush bar enclosure is clear, so you can see how much hair, etc. has got gummed up in there, without having to turn the vacuum over. The dirt canister comes off much more easily than on the Dyson DC01, and open with the press of a button, so emptying is easier. It is smaller than the Dyson's though, but I don't think this will be a problem at all. I am, to say the least, VERY impressed with the Vax U87, especially for its lightness and its incredible suction, and also it's much more quiet than my Dyson, so doesn't leave your ears ringing - in fact, it's incredibly quiet when you consider how much more powerful it is than the Dyson.
