Audiophile Acrylic Turntable Mat | Yellow | Slipmat Made in USA Rega Pro-Ject

Excellent for setting arm bias (anti-skate force)
This is a well made slipmat for even distribution of record weight in conjunction with a Big Ben Record Weight Stabilizer Clamp holding the record flat and stable while playing. While the improvement in sound may be only noticeable by an experienced audiophile, the smooth side of the back is excellent for simply setting arm bias (anti-skate force) - so the tonearm adjustment can be made so that it doesn't move in or out. In other words the perfect anti-skate setting can be achieved when the stylus stays in place with the slipmat rotating at speed [ 33 or 45 RPM]. This is done without damage to the stylus. If you get the bright yellow/orange plastic version of the slipmat, it fluoresces along the edges from ambient light or by tall RPM adjustment strobes making it visible in low light when changing records. It adds a fun visual edge to sleek turntables!

Very Good Record Weight with Improvement needed
This is a very good record weight [puck] with what looks like a sandblasted finish is black anodized or painted coating. It is just the right mass to not interfere with turntables with light motor or belt drives and lay the record [LP] flat. I have tested it on a Accutrac 4000 and a Pioneer A-35 belt drive turntables. In an on/off test using a new LP on both turntables, it does make a slight crispness level improvement probably that can only be heard by a true audiophile listening carefully to low noise low volume sections of a song with relatively complex musical range. I have measured the height of the puck at 1.505". This is about 0.100" below the Accutrac record players lid when in the down position with the puck sitting on a standard LP on the original turntable mat with no additional risers. The Pioneer lid is about 0.125" between the top of the puck and the bottom of the cover. If you have a low profile lid you may not be able to play your record with the lid down. Now come my only criticism of this device. The hole in the puck is over sized. I have attached photos showing how I measured the I.D. of pin on the turntable and its mating hole on the bottom of the puck. The record player pin is 0.281 inches in diameter and the I.D of the socket hole on the puck is 0.315 inches in diameter. This can give a 0.034" offset between the puck and the pin resulting in a possible 0.035" offset from the central axis of the record and pin if the puck is not placed on center. This very visible as the record turns. The off set if at a maximum of 0.035" could add some wobble to the turntable...probably not an issue to average turntables. I don't think that at 33 rpm this matters much. One could make a shim to fill the space between the pin and the I.D. of the hole to hold it on center --- I may do this if it seems necessary upon more tests. The manufacturer should consider including shim spacers to fit varying diameters of record play pins OR better yet, if all pins are essentially the same diameters, bring the puck hole into closer tolerance with a standard pin diameter. The Accutrac pin was 0.281" and the Pioneer diameter was 0.279", therefore a nominal ID of the puck hole should be about 0.285" +/- 0.002" to sit more securely on the pin. They could do tests on various pins to find the optimal diameter and manufacturing tolerance. If this were corrected then this would product get 5 stars.

Missile to the Moon (VHS, 1990) Midnight Madness hosted by Elvira

    Missed oportunity for Elvira
I was hoping that Elvira would illuminate this 'B' movie with her wit ....there are lots of places for her to do her magic in this campy sic fi drive movie that would have made this far more fun. The movie is just OK for 1950's sci-fi fans. Elvira only introduces and closes the movie ...no commentary throughout the movie. As far as I know this was never released on DVD and VHS may be the only way to get this. Maybe someday Elvira will do this movie justice in a DVD release.
