Died 2 hours after use

Charged it all up and took it on a long trip charged in car with the blue light showing power. 2 hours later it died and did not come on until I arrived destination 18 hours later. Charged it up on computer for a day then upgraded using express on the map2017 update and the 1.30 program update. Took about 3 hours said it was successful. Hooked it back into car left it for 2 days charging and then took a drive but GPS failed to power up ever. So RMA to Kansas cost me $18 insured. have a new one a week later working but afraid to upgrade it and especially it may be near a year until another trip before using it again? Price is also lower now, probably a newer model coming? Been less than a month for all this. I have 2 older Garmin and Magellan work perfect just older and no updates as updates cost more than a new one. When they are over 10 years old they should be free updates. Now I know to bring a backup gps. Can't use cell gps if no coverage and data plan too small. Pay more than other countries for less service and every little thing and tax. Just the way we are treated and we put up with.
