Hit & Miss

Took a while to realise you can't have 3.5mm jack & optical cable plugged in at same time. Never sure whether sound was going to materialise from various devices - works with some, not with others. Weird that sound from TV was OK on Freeview channels up to 86, but no sound on higher-numbered channels! Starting to see why it was cheap.

Good value, reasonably attractive, sub-IKEA ease of construction..

Once constructed, the finished unit looks pretty good, especially for the price. However, construction took a long time, not helped by the instructions, where a single diagram would cover 5 or 6 steps with no clue as to the order they should be done in. Wherever the small screws were used, holes had been pre-drilled but with too small a diameter, so it was quite hard work getting these in. Many of them were in places where an electric screwdriver was too big, plus the crosses in the screw heads could get damaged unless you were careful. The glossy doors on the front were both very slightly bowed, so there are small gaps at either end when the doors are closed, although not noticeable unless you are standing over them. Having said all that, if you persevere, the end result is pleasing and on balance, I would recommend it.
