Probably only a protection against squirrels
I wanted a starling proof bird feeder so that the little birds could feed without being mobbed and was directed to this design. it does not work against larger birds like starlings because they can still reach through the wires and get to the fat balls. There is another feeder which appears to have a wider cage round the feeder but whether that would work I do not know.

Well made with ease of maintenance the only thing I would say is that I had to drill and insert a retaining screw on the main cap to stop it becoming detached from the main body it turns very easily to come apart but apart from that the fact that one can get to the inner tube to clean it is excellent.

Does the job
Easy to fit with little or no fear of losing the plug because the nut is embedded in the insert and the rubber flange prevents the insert from falling through.
