Great p&s camera, for lots of iq, but limited action capabilities. Low light photos require a tripod and selection of an iso between 100 and 400.
This camera is a great point and shoot, but with a foveon three stack (red, green, blue) sensor, with some enhanced features over the Merrill series. The sensor capabilities make for image quality that far surpasses most of the Bayer sensor p&s cameras. The processor is much faster than the Merrill version, which enhances the street photography capability. If you add a view screen finder it makes focusing precision much easier to achieve. Contrary to what some have said, I find the physical design of the camera very comfort and easy to operate. Others have said it is awkward for them. I like it.
The camera has significant iso limits, and requires good light to perform well. But in good natural light or with a flash it takes great photos.
It also has focus speed limits, limiting its action photography usefulness.
So, it is really a specialty camera.
I admit bias toward the brand, as I have 8 foveon cameras, including this one, and enjoy this one also with other p&s models, the DP1, DP2, DP2 Merrill, and now the DP3 Quattro. This is the largest of them, but is still fast becoming a favorite.
I also got a great buy on this one, excellent, like new condition, and a great price.

Sigma Foveon cameras - slow but hi IQ (even the older ones)
I have 3 generations of both compact and full size DSLR Sigma Foveon cameras. They are not action camerad, but if image quality is really important to you, they are really brilliant for the price. The last two generations of Merrill and Quattro cameras can output poster size prints from full sixe raw files.
You have to be patient with processing the large size files, but the wait is worth while!

Cosmeticly rough looking, but the moveme...
Cosmeticly rough looking, but the movement runs very well, keeping very good time. I needed the movement to replace the original which ran very poorly. Good buy for that purpose.
