50" Plasma LG 1080p (1920x1080) (50PS3000) Flat Screen TV

Good TV but heavy on juice
For its time this was a very good TV, and picture quality wise it probably still is, however it uses a lot of power, maybe 0.5KW depending upon settings, with much of that power going out as heat. This has 2 implications. Over a year, with say 3 hours per day viewing, or (for easy maths) 1000hrs per year, that's 500kWhrs, which at 15p per kWhr is £75 per year running cost. Compared with a latest LED with 1/10th of the power draw, that's a difference of nearly £70 per year in cost of Electricity to run. Secondly, the heat means certain electrical components run hot. which means they're more liable to failure, and they do fail. I know, I changed boards twice because certain components overheated and failed. But if you can get it cheap in the first place, then maybe the downside high running cost and risk of failure are worth taking.
MORTICE TUBULAR LATCH Internal Interior Door Catch Brass 2 1/2 inch

An OK latch, but not as shown in the photo
I ordered this latch because the photo showed it to be a superior quality product selling at a slightly higher price than latches offered by other suppliers. The product actually sent to me was however just the normal latch which I could have purchased elsewhere for a lower price. Differences were 1) area of the side plate around the circular pin, with the square drive, had a thickened section immediately around the pin meaning it would be less prone to wear from the rotation of the pin and the pressure of the internal spring. 2) the side plates appear to be tied together in 3 locations, rather than the 2 locations on the latch received, meaning the latch was more robust and better made, and 3) the latch itself had a round section where it connected with the door frame, whereas the latch received had a a straight section. This would mean the latch I ordered would close more easily. Not big differences you might think, but enough for me to decide I'll pay a bit extra. The latches received fitted fine and works okay for now, but they're not the ones I thought I was purchasing.
