Nikon 35Ti 35mm Point & Shoot Film Camera #4619
09 Feb, 2016
THE best 35mm point and shoot I own
I shoot mostly vintage 35mm manual rangefinder cameras, but I decided to pick up a point and shoot camera for every day use. Great metering system, excellent autofocus system, smart flash controls, flexible program AE and most of all, aperture priority AE as well. That is what I asked for in a P&S camera and after weighing all my options for a high end point and shoot 35mm camera I opted for the Nikon 35Ti. Nikon hit the nail on the head with all of the above along with Nikkor quality glass and a Titanium chassis. It has a 35mm Nikkor lens with an f/2.8 aperture. Coupling that lens with Nikon's Matrix metering system and their 866 step AF system and you can bet you'll be nothing but pleased with your photo results. It's proven itself to me already after just 2 rolls of film. It's no cheap little point and shoot mind you, so keep in mind it originally retailed for $1,000. It's got a nice heft in your hands without being too heavy or large and the controls are where they need to be. The panorama feature is pointless today but it was requisite for point and shoot cameras of that era. The fill flash, no flash and red eye features work very well, with the first two options coming along with a slow sync. And marrying that with Nikon's matrix metering system and you get really well balanced photos. Today, you can get one in decent shape for under $300 and one in excellent shape for about a $400. Look out for the last iteration of this camera. You can tell by the flash control, it's got a 3 way switch like the 28Ti has, as opposed to the 2 buttons. They are both functional, but I consider the flash control from the 28Ti to be more thought out and frankly better. And a quick mention about the 28Ti, which is this camera but with a 28mm f/2.8 lens and a black body instead of the gold-tone of the 35Ti. The 28Ti is more sought after, a bit more expensive and more rare since they were made for fewer years. If 28mm is more your thing, like the Ricoh GR and such, than strongly consider the 28Ti as well. Either way...great cameras! So If the option comes up for a high end point and shoot, definitely consider this camera; I recommend it highly. You will not be disappointed.
