Good try
This case is not watertight since there is a hole on the bottom end to allow air to escape while inserting the lighter . Which means you must buy a full size bic lighter and nothing else. The seal is made around the lighter after insertion. But it does work as advertised and is water resistant to some degree.

Lost cause.
This magnesium would not light with a ferro rod, alcohol fire or striker. Took several seconds with a torch lighter to set it off.
Not much help in a survival situation.
