Jazz Trumpet played compared to Gershwin+Fitzgerald
It's good, a personal favourite of mine, Davis does do things differently than you will hear on the Porgy and Bess recording with Fitzgerald, with several floretted pieces so signature to his style, without becoming or appearing elitist or purist in his group and genre. Something appears very lacking, without the usual vocal accompaniament, which I think spoils this CD for me. It's good as a alternative to the original recording, which has the very strong powerful emotive soulful vocals of one Ella Fitzgerald. It's very interesting, having heard summertime played so many times, with Ella singing. Recommended, but I would obtain a copy of Gershwin + Fitzgerald first Many thanks, Mr Davis.. Very surprising how I got into your music from European trance with the sycopated 5 drummers drumming in "Bitches Brew" (someone raved and waxed lyrical about this in a Trance Europe Express compilation in the ate 1990's) through which that, a few of your other albums finally through to this, took me right back to my very own family's musical roots.
