Fast, very quiet and low power consumption but a few reliability issues

I bought this drive for use in a PVR after the previous one started to fail. The first one I bought would not load the heads upon power up but the seller quickly refunded my money so I purchased a 2nd one, which worked perfectly. The 2nd disk's SMART info revealed that it had been used for less than 1000 hours and had absolutely no errors so I am hopeful that this one will provide long service. It uses only only 3.4 watts during read/write operations, 0.7watt during sleep, 3 watts in idle mode and 24 watts during disk startup so it is a great drive to use in devices like PVRs where the disk tends to be in data mode continually, if time shifting is enabled. In addition it is very quiet, I can hardly hear it and it compares very favourably to a Western Digital drive that is used in one of my friends PVRs. I would recommend this drive with the one caveat that prospective purchasers should watch out for the older 2nd hand ones may have been used for years in Sky boxes, etc. and are reaching the end of their lives. This model is no longer manufactured so most that are available are 2nd hand.

Good value IR LEDs

These LEDs were delivered relatively quickly from China and have proved to be great value for money. Only one of the 50 that I bought was faulty and the rest have been running reliably with 700ma of current through them They are single chip 3W LEDs so the output is not as high as the 2-chip variety but they are less than half the price. The 5-star rating is a reflection of the price-performance of these LEDs

Surprising volume and clarity from a very compact amplifier

This is the second of these TDA7498E amplifier boards that I have purchased. Previously I bought the, slightly smaller, 2 x 100W board and was very happy with it until I built this one into an amplifier, wired it up to my speakers and tried it out. The claimed 2 x 160W is certainly over estimated but they drive my floor standing Pulsar TAS 1200E speakers to a level that is almost painful to my ears, with very little distortion. I have a 32 volt 120 watt power supply, which I settled on after trying 20, 24 and 36 volt supplies. Buy one you will not be disappointed.
