Character study:The final days of a has been.
Olivier is very convincing as a past it end of the pier entertainer verging on bankruptcy and a breakdown. The entire cast exude a monochromatic postwar malaise. The overall effect is moving and depressing in equal measure. Recommended but don’t expect to be rolling in the aisles with laughter!
