A suitably stiff, resistant to dog-earing, plastic index tag
This was what I was looking for – a suitably stiff, resistant to dog-earing, plastic index tag to put in books. It only loses a star because they are not so easy to write on – you need to find a pen that works on them. But that is a minor complaint and I'd happily buy them again.

Not cheap, but good quality and safe.
Unlike cheaper wet markers, this actually comes off without a fight. It's pricey, which is why it lost a star, but that's the case wherever you buy it. For my purposes it's a bit fine, so be aware of that if not using it on overheads.
