Not switched
Although it says switched in the title there is no switch on the cable to change between k line and can, therefore on some models you will only be able to communicate with the dme

Got the key programmed, works and looks great! Be aware that if you have an e46 with the newer 'Diamond' style key, you cannot swap the old chip over and you will have to buy a new transponder chip and get it programmed!

Everything you need, and then some
1 of 1 found this helpful This kit comes with everything you need for the repair, and even some parts that you could probably reuse such as the bolts but the extra peace of mind always helps. The kit itself is all high quality including the gaskets sourced from Elring so you know they are of high quality, and it is fairly straight forward to fit, you will need an impact wrench to get the piston open to replace the rings and needle bearings, i am not a mechanic by any means but it only took me around 4 hours to finish and it was my first time doing this. Expect a rough idle for a short while after fitting this kit, even more so if you have an idle valve delete like i do, it may stall out and/or take a while to crank over, this is just the unit having to fill with oil again to operate properly. I would recommend this kit to anyone who hasn't replaced their VANOS seals, especially so if you want to prevent the rattle that appears at a higher mileage.
