Benjamin Banneker American Scientific Pioneer Signature Lives Revo
14 May, 2022
Banneker was a genius!
This is a very informative book about the mathematical genius Benjamin Banneker, who lived in the period of late colonial America, the Revolutionary War, and the early days of the United States. He helped survey the site of Washington, D.C. and published several widely respected almanacs. The book tells about Banneker's family history and early life, then chronicles his life as member of his community... He was a free black man whose grandmother was a white British woman who came to America as an indentured servant. The book is illustrated with drawings, paintings, and photographs. It was clearly written for young people, but that simply means anyone who doesn't know about Banneker would learn a great deal about this important person in American history.

The Black Cauldron
This is an excellent fantasy adventure novel written for upper elementary aged kids and above. It is the second book in Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain series. It was named a Newbery Honor book for 1966. The final book in the series, The High King, won the Newbery Award for the most distinguished American children's book of 1969. The stories are full of magic, swords and sorcery, and even a little romance. I have read this book several times with several different sixth grade classes over the years (yep, I' m a teacher). The hardback edition I purchased from eBay features a map and a pronunciation guide.

Well done
I only read the first couple of chapters so far and it aligns with the tv show by the same name. I also read the graphic novel version ( all theee volumes), so this is my last hurrah with the story.
