Corsets and Crinolines
This book is so well known that it hardly needs another review. However, I would like to say that it certainly lives up to its tremendous reputation. There is so much historical information contained within it, and there are so many patterns too. The patterns do have to be enlarged etc. though. The book arrived in good time and was well packed so that it was in good condition. Highly recommended!

Fashion from the Forties and Fifties
This book is divided into two parts. The first covers materials, tools, techniques, the general history of the time and also the fashion. There are many, many photographs and a lot of information. This includes how to approach a future performance and the stages that should be gone through in deciding the clothes to be worn by each actor. It also touches on how one could use ordinary clothes to achieve the correct ‘look’.
The second part covers the patterns. These have to be graded. Instructions are given for the making of each garment and pattern layout, cutting out, sewing and finishing are all discussed.
Probably best for those with reasonable experience.
