LG UltraFine 5K Monitor 5120x2880 Resolution Display 27MD5KA For Mac RRP Β£1179

Excellent display - especially good value as an 'as new' reconditioned purchase
My impressions so far after a couple of weeks are very good. The picture is sharp and detailed - clearly an excellent panel from a premium manufacturer. Setup is very straightforward - simply plug it in via the included Thunderbolt 3 USB C cable. You are expected to control it all directly from your Mac - there are no external controls. I am using mine with a new 27" 5K iMac, which works very well - the display is the same dimensions and resolution as the Mac. I'm replacing a 10-year old 30" Apple Cinema Display (still going strong). I have not yet managed to calibrate this monitor to be subjectively the same as the iMac and I suspect that I may not be able to achieve that, although for me this is not a significant issue. The calibration tools in Mac OSX High Sierra are easy to use, but after 20 minutes of trying different approaches, I ended up with the monitor looking still very slightly more greenish than the iMac. I know others have had good calibration results with the MacBook Pro. The styling is basic and functional, but inoffensive. It is clearly suitable as a partner for the iMac, but is only a distant cousin rather than a close family member. The image is good enough to dominate your attention so if the styling is of secondary importance for you then no problem. The screen is easily raised and lowered, but there is no swivel. Build quality seems good - it is solid overall, only small amounts of movement if pushed against. No vibrations or rattles. Until Apple start manufacturing their own displays again, this is a worthy companion to the latest Macs if you need or want high quality and cannot or do not wish to wait for Apple. In the picture, the new LG display is on the right, just for a quick size comparison, while installing the new iMac on the left (the old 30" display is behind). Do not use the picture to judge image quality. Overall, very happy to recommend it.
