The Great Detective
Many authors have written Holmes stories and a lot of them are excellent. Few are better than Val Andrews. All his Holmes stories can be purchased cheaply (£5-ish) Great stuff for Holmes fans.

Help for an author.
Mike Covell has done some excellent research into the Maybrick family and the most controversial candidate for Jack The Ripper. The only disappointment was due to my own fault. I thought that the book was the story of James Maybrick, his family, the diary and some up-to-date research and opinion. It is actually mainly a collection of articles written at the time. Useful-yes, valuable for students of the subject-yes, helpful for someone about to write about Maybrick-yes. A book for reading cover to cover on the subject-not really.

A poets life
A fascinating and well balanced view of the troubled poet Francis Thompson. Thompson has recently been suggested as a possible Jack the Ripper! He wasn't. This book allows you to see Thompson through the eyes of those that actually knew him.
