3 of 3 found this helpful This has been a lifesaver. My two labradoodles have black claws which never wear down. Because the claws are black I can't see where the quick is and over the last few years there have been several unfortunate accidents which resulted in my dogs and I being terrified whenever I got the clippers out! This grinder is wonderful - for the first time in ages their nails are nearly a normal length. It did take the dogs a little while to get used to the noise and vibration but I used a lot of treats at first and now they're fine. Three cautions though: 1. It is a little tricky to put together at first but persevere. 2. If your dog has long hair on its feet, as mine have, make sure to try and keep it out of the way of the grinder - it can get caught and 3. Only use it in short bursts (one or two seconds) as the nail can get very hot. I think the last two points are mentioned in the instructions. To sum up; this is much better than I thought it would be and I just wish I'd got one a long time ago (and so do my dogs).
