Little black box bargain
5 of 5 found this helpful Great little pre-amp, compact, smart and most importantly it works really well.
Bought because the built-in phono stage on my audio amp has been playing up. Connecting the turntable through the pre-amp into the audio amp's line inputs gives great sounding vinyl once more.
Given the tiny signals involved I expect the supplied 9V battery will last for ages, provided I remember to switch the unit off after use!
Overall a great little product for the money and very pleased with it.

Entry-level OM system camera
Was one of the the lower-cost 'consumer' versions of Olympus's ON-series system cameras from the 1980s. Worth buying if you can find a good one, works with the excellent Zuiko OM-system lenses, plus Olympus flash and motor drives too. Lacks the high-end features and build quality of an OM-2n for example, but will still do a great job if you know what you're doing. Still plenty around and, so buy the best you can afford and you should not be disappointed.

Olympus Zuiko™ 14-54mm f/2.8-3.5 for E-1
1 of 1 found this helpful I have an Olympus E-500 twin lens kit which came with the 14-45mm f3.5-5.6 and the 40-150mm f3.5-4.5. While the 14-45 is not bad as a standard kit lens, it is not the fastest and the longer focal length 40-150 is not only faster but much sharper too. Like others I had coveted the much more expensive and higher-spec 14-54 from afar until I found it on eBay at a UK seller, new in box and at a very keen price.
The 14-54mm is optically superior, is considerably faster, has a focus distance indicator (though not much use above 1m) and also has a close-up mode. I hesitate to say macro because I don't think it is really (and it is not sold as one) but you can get in to 22cm at all focal lengths so vastly better than the 14-45. The additional length at the tele-end is useful too.
Being dust and splash-proof is good, although obviously the E-500's body isn't!
It is bulkier and heavier than the 14-45 and takes 67mm filters rather than 58mm.
Overall a great investment - if I ever decide to upgrade to newer E-system offerings I know I can buy body-only in confidence that the optics will match the camera.
Remember this was the kit lens for the highly regarded and pro-spec E-1 and is also offered as standard with some E-3 kits.
