It's the sort of book you can pick up and put down whenever you like, and it always gives enjoyment. Funny with a smile, not a belly laugh. Mair can write about anything and it's always good reading. I keep buying copies of this book to give to friends.

A brilliant (if a bit odd) idea.

This may be a trifle flimsy and remarkably cheap, but it's doing a magnificent job keeping the marauding jackdaws out of the little barn that houses the chickens and their food. It covers the door-space, leaving a chicken-sized gap at the bottom - the chickens walk through the gap and the jackdaws haven't twigged how to get in as they can't fly through the mesh. It has already more than paid for itself in saved corn and layers' pellets.
