..but not even a whistle from Sean Bean
I bought this because I like Sharpe - the books, the TV series and the talking books which I listen to in the car. But this is Hagman the old poacher singing aka John Tams who played Hagman in the TV series but who appears to spend most of his time making music. The CD is about half songs and half instrumentals. I've played the songs a lot. They evoke a different period of time - when music had to be played on an instrument or sung by someone, when men could become heroes like Sharpe. Anyone who enjoys tunes that are well sung and well played will enjoy the songs. The instrumentals are more the sort of backing music that military films and shows use and so are more ordinary and I have not listened to them so much. I have created a Sharpe's songs playlist on my Ipod however which has been played and played recently because the songs are that good - and for me a bit different from even my catholic tastes. There is one TV series song missing however which is a bit strange. Hearts of Oak seems to feature in a number of the stories but it is not on this CD. You can't have everything though and I would certainly recommend the CD.
