You Thought You Knew Hit The Songs - Now Listen Again To The Remixed 12" !
This compilation when released, not only was long overdue, but also suffered from a lack of promotion from ZTT for reasons best known to themselves ! However what it does deliver is a supburb selection of 12" mixes (that either were hard to find, or if you had managed to aquire, are probally not now in pristine condition). Out of the 18 tracks, 7 were released as 12" vinyl (Relax - Sex Mix, Two Tribes - Hibakusha Mix, Welcome To The Pleasuredome - Fruitness Mix, Rage Hard - Broad, Watching The Wildlife - Die Letzten Der Menschheit, Warriors of the Wasteland - Attack Full Mix & War - Hidden). 1 was a b side of another 12" (Don't Lose What's Left) Of Your Little Mind. Disneyland was on a 1984 ZTT Compilation (note the same elephant sound effects used, are also found on Propagandas Duel)! Also included a few examples of Post 2001 remixes that have followed, namely Rage Hard - Freddy Bastone Mix, The Power Of Love (93) - Alternative Mix, Two Tribes - 808 State Remix, & Relax - Peter Rauhofers Doomsday Club Mix (Non of which generate the same depthness & rawness of the originals of the 80's remixes - shame). But as a bonus, are 2 tracks, Welcome To The Pleasurdome - Escape Act Video Mix & yet another version of Warriors Of The Wasteland - Attack Mix, but this version has overdubbed Guitar featuring (the late) Gary Moore. I have aways maintained that to get the best out of FGTH you (must &), should listen to sample the delights of these extended versions to discover the true quality & production which Trevor Horn excelled in, whereby in just casually hearing the 7" mixes never did justice to a truly ground breaking 80's Pop/Rock group. This Group Lead the 12" Remixes (& The Re-Remixes) - others soon followed ! This Album gives you another chance to hear them second time round - don't miss it.

(Per-spek-tiv)n. - Secret Gem from Louis Clark
This piece of music was unfortunatley ill timed on it's original release (March 1979), together with it's odd album title combined to its overall low sales. However for those that have been able to sample this Rock Orchestral masterpiece, it's an absoulte Gem. The original release was on Harvest. Just 2 tracks - Part 1 & 2 (with 16 various sub titles), & a 7" single was issued "Escape" c/w "Departure"(August 1979), to promote the LP. Louis Clark was the un-sung arranger behind most of the E.L.O. albums, from "Eldorado" thru to "Out Of The Blue" together with of course Jeff Lynne. Whilst in the process of composing & constructing for E.L.O. he sort the assistance of other fine musicians i.e. Johm Tout (Renaissance), Kevin Peek & Francis Monkman (Sky & Curved Air), also others featured was the Sax player from Wizzard - Nick Pentelow, Roy Wood also became invovled & features on the album playing Guitar & Sitar from the onset. The album is an Instrumental Concept, following, twisting & turning weaving its way thru from a Bach like Toccata & Fugue begining, to fast String sections and even Classical Interudes to a Grande Finale climax - a bit of everything that could be mistaken for an E.L.O. lost composition ! The fact that (apart from Roy Wood), there are no other members of the the group present was possibly to the fact that that at the time of construction, E.L.O. were embarked on their 1978 world tour. From the basis of this came then the concept idea of the very sucessful "Hooked on Classics" series - which propelled him to a much wider audience a couple of years later. Looking back another reason for it failing to chart or gain reconition may be that at around the same time also came Jeff Waynes "War Of The Worlds" which had just been released in July 1978, which the public took to their hearts by the million. Louis Clark still has connections with E.L.O. and after this relese helped in making their next album "Discovery" become a No. 1 hit. This reissue on Edsel is now quite hard to obtain - therefore my advice is to grab yourself a copy before they all dissapear and enjoy a genuine Orchestral Rock album that you will keep going back to over & over again Erik Lesley - Jan 2011
