16 reasons I love Astrud
1 of 1 found this helpful If you're an Astrud Gilberto fan, you probably already know you'll enjoy this CD big time with mostly her old, familiar tunes, but you might be surprised to hear when The Girl from Ipanema opens that this is the version with Joao Gilberto also singing in it -- which is fine, of course. Otherwise, the CD is all Astrud, flying solo.
If you're not very familiar with Astrud beyond, probably, Girl from Ipanema, first, where have you been, and second, this girl always delivers, same sound, same warm, sweet, tender feel, so just bask in the vibes of her talent.
I had these songs on an LP, and was prompted to get this one for the bonus of hearing the profound sounds of Gil Evans' jazzy composing genius, arranged for Gilberto's Berimbau and Felicade.

He's an original, for sure
First, I don't know why eBay's prompt said that I indicated that this book is better than I expected. Cohen is a brilliant talent and, above all in impressiveness, an original in style and use of words. I'm reading another of his books and have only looked randomly in this one. It's indeed original. I do not like what I know so far about Cohen as a man, but, of course, that's virtually a moot point, in that so many writers, poets, and painters tend to be very flawed humans. Interesting book, this one.
