Math Steps Level 7
This is a series of books available for different grades. Each "grade level" focuses on the basic skills needed for that particular grade. There are no pictures or frills. It's just math problems explained in simple, plain steps. Each chapter has several "test preps" (like quizzes) and Unit Reviews (cummulative.) Everything is short, sweet and to the point.
For a child who catches on quickly and doesn't need manipulatives, it could be used as a stand alone text. For a child who needs extra practice, it is NOT overwhelming. Actually, for a kid who struggles with math... it isn't overwhelming! And that's 3/4's of the battle! The books are also very reasonable in price.
We are using these as supplements in homeschooling. I have a granddaughter who is dyslexic, and we use multiple levels, and approaches, with her. This works great for her. It also is useful with the other grandchildren! I have levels 4, 6 & 7. At this point we are not using this as a stand alone curriculum... but it's because of how we do math, not because of the text.
Certainly a curriculum worth looking at!

D'Nealian Handwriting
The D'Nealian handwriting technique is not the stick and ball method. The student is taught slants, and minimal picking up of the pencil from the beginning of learning handwriting. This makes the flow into cursive writing natural, and easier. When cursive is introduced, the student is basically taught connective strokes. I have used this method to teach children to write, and to transition into cursive, for decades. I love it, and the children love it!

The Vegetable Gardener's Bible by Edward C. Smith, John
1 of 1 found this helpful Originally, I checked this book out of the library. I loved it, and had to own it! I'm not a novice gardener, but there were so many handy tips all in one place... I just had to have this book. The information and stepped photo's make it easy to follow for anybody vegetable gardening.
I love the companion gardening section... boxed table comparing plant, plant friend, and plant adversary. Section that tells various herbs & flowers that can be used to deter specific pests with specific plants. Weed control strategies, composte strategies, various planting strategies.
Heck, it is truly a vegetable gardner's BIBLE!
