1 of 1 found this helpful This can be used as an excellent bird feeder. Fit an upturned 9 1//2" plant saucer in the top (it needs a few holes drilled and a small length of wire) to protect the lower feeder from rain. Fit an 8" plant pot saucer on the base; again drill a few holes and secure with wire. (The holes will also drain any excess rain). Place a mix of seeds, suet pellets, crushed peanuts in the lower saucer. Locate the feeder on a flat surface (mine is on the patio); this allows the small birds to hop inside to feed. Ideal for robins, sparrows, etc. Larger birds, such as blackbirds, starlings, etc., feed just by putting their heads through the frames.. even larger birds try this, too.
I put mine in a safe place at night to prevent rodents from stealing bird food..
