Impressive Performance in a Compact Package
I bought this to carry in my Leatherman Wave nylon sheath during hikes & metal detecting outings. It's compact size, light weight, and sturdy build make it an excellent choice. I've only used it a few times so far, but IT IS *BRIGHT*. I haven't had to change the battery yet - I use Eneloop rechargeables, and after a couple of hours of use, there has been no noticeable reduction in brightness so far. I also use it around the house to find small items that like to hide when dropped. Just be aware that this flashlight will reveal more than you want to know re: bachelor housekeeping deficits...

Good Value and They Do the Job!
While these aren't super heavy-duty (what do you expect for $3?), they are just what I needed. These went on pretty easily. I did have to bend the tab back and drill a hole for a nylon zip tie to attach to my Marzocchi front fork, but it looks clean and stays put. When I motorized my mountain bike recently, I read posts re: more stones and muck thrown when off-roading. I also read of metal fenders vibrating loose and locking the front tire, throwing the rider over the handlebars. Not good at 35 MPH. So. these are perfect - they catch the worst of the muck and, in the event that one gets broken, they're light enough that they would just fall away.
I would recommend them for regular MTB'ers, too, unless you're doing some pretty rough riding and rock-hopping. They have a little flex to them- more like vinyl than hard plastic. They look pretty good, too. So, I'd buy them again.

Cheap Plastic Junk, Shame on You, Shimano
Spend a little more and get a more durable shifter. Mine broke before I even got to take it out for a spin. In the process of adjusting it, I noticed a 'crack' from within the shifter. Sure enough, no more shifting. I opened it up to have a look (knowing it wouldn't be worth returning a $5 item to China), and found that one of the rather flimsy plastic parts had snapped. There are no metal parts in the mechanism.
I thought I'd be OK with the low-end of the Shimano line, as I've always had good luck with their products before, and I was just putting it on my newly motorized MTB. (The old shifters mounted on the now disused brake pulls.) I don't do much shifting now, but I still want something reliable when pedaling. I'm glad that these are working well for others, but I'm spending a bit more and getting a shifter with some metal in it.
