eedback has changed, now some sellers demand the buyers star rate the item. As I am unable to rate item until I use it, I will give every item 1 star. Feedback is for the service not a product review. Ok rant over, now for feedback. Smooth transaction. Well Packed. Fast delivery. Well done!!!

The Algerines: Fleet Minesweepers of the Royal Navy, 1942-1961 *Author Signed*

    Superb.
The Algerines by Jack Williams is an excellent history of those workhorses of the second world war. The service history of the flotillas operating Algerines both in war and peace are covered in depth with Anecdotes from crew members to add flavour. A large number of photographs which seem to cover every vessel at least once is invaluable. A true labour of love...
    Dragon 1/35 T-34/76 Mod. 1940 w/Soviet GEN 2 Weapons # 9153
    14 Dec, 2016
What it says on the box but disappointing.
Before I begin I should point out that the above title and most of what I will say is regarding the package rather than the kit itself. Dragon's T-34 tanks are certainly amongst the best detailed and most accurate information any scale and cover a wider range than other manufacturers. This boxing depicts an early production variant from 1940 and as such is interesting in itself as to my knowledge (not encyclopedic) no one other than Dragon has produced this variant. I understand that this kit is mostly accurate and the same would of course apply here. The box is labelled as being a 'super value pack' containing a bonus of Soviet gen2 weapons. This is entirely correct. This kit arrives in a rather flimsy, fully colour printed card box which already shows marks and creases from carriage. Not important you might say and perhaps not particularly but it nowhere near as resilient as older Dragon/ Value Pack boxings and I for one wouldn't trust it to protect a kit for a long time. On the back of the box are your painting options, two in the three colour camouflage as depicted on the box top and one in a standard 'Russian green'. Parts within the box are sealed into several bags each containing one or more sprues of parts. Some of the suspension arms appear to have a little flash on them but this is not a big issue. The 'bonus parts' literally consist of two small frets taken from a gen2 figure set and amount to a handful of small arms, magazines and steel helmets. The decal sheet is roughly the size of a postage stamp and only covers one of the three options. A piece of very fine twine is given to represent the tow cable. Perhaps I am being unfair but previous 'Orange Box value packs' have contained a set of figures, magic tracks or DS plastic tracks where relevant, upgraded parts from a smart kit where appropriate, on occasion a small etch fret etc compared to a handful of fairly insignificant small arms and nothing else. It smacks of economy rather than 'value ' I cannot particularly complain about the price I paid for this item and am happy enough with the basic kit but as other major retailers in the UK are listing this item for £39.99 I would strongly recommend that you look around rather than buying at the first opportunity. Recommended with the above provisos.
Fleet Sweepers at War, Minesweepers of the Royal Navy 1939-45
    04 Sep, 2020
Good but could have been better.
Upon arrival a quick skim through this title showed plenty of detail regarding the classes themselves, wartime service and what I had most hoped for, lots of photographs of the ships themselves in service. Many of the latter were images that I have not seen before so on the face of it met my expectations. The style of writing is engaging so another 'tick' there, the author having served on minesweepers himself during the Second World War. However the book is, in my view, let down by its production quality. The cover illustration of minesweepers during the Dunkirk evacuation promises much but the quality of paper used means that many photographs have been reproduced in such a dark manner that detail is difficult to make out. Whilst this is disappointing it is by no means a 'deal breaker'. This is an inexpensive volume which is bursting with information and history, undoubtedly a labour of love by the author so is well worth the investment. Combine it with Peter Elliott's Allied Minesweeping in World War 2 and you will have an excellent overview of these brave and unheralded people.
