A Christian Fairy Tale
Not finished it yet (3000+ lines!); have only recently recovered from reading the original (Manchester, mid 70s). My main curiosity was to see Heaney's take on the work. He takes liberties but hey, he is/was a 21st century acclaimed poet and scholar. It's rewarding for both novice and former Old English Lit victim. Readers might also like to hunt down Tolkien's essay, 'Beowulf: the Monsters and the Critics'.
