a mostly solid piece of equipment
i have recieved a GE cassettecorder clock radio made in the prime of the 1980s, plastic casing with painted appearance of woodgrain and brushed silver. on the surface there are no noteworthy scuffs, scratches, or blemishes, but dirt has allocated on the tape deck's reels and there is some specks of dirt on the clear face of the display that can simply be washed off. honestly NBD.
regarding this particular piece of equipment, the AM/FM radio works optimally with a strong signal and sound quality in standards expected from the 80's, which i personally find quite enjoyable. the alarm is a single, monotonous chime - an alarm version that i find unusual and have never experienced, but that may be because i am quite young - with an adjustable volume level that shares its function with the media formats. the chime is low-medium but if set at a volume level ~4 and heard for around 15 seconds you can really feel your eardrums vibrate. i would not consider that a complaint at all as that assures me that i would definitely wake up from the alarm. the cassettecorder features all of the qualities you'd like from any cassette player that has ever been on the market, with record, fast forward, rewind, pause, and stop/eject. if stop/eject is pressed once while a tape is inside, it will simply stop, press twice and it will eject. unfortunately, i cannot review how well these functions work for the cassettecorder as the playback function does not work, but FF, RW, pause and stop do function, or at least attempt to. i have no available blank cassette tapes to attempt recording. i do not regard this as a major setback for this review as this is a dated and used piece of equipment that has mechanical features that do require time-to-time maintenance, and i have other functioning cassette players i can use.
in summation; although i am a tad disappointed in the lack of this item's cassettecorder functionality on arrival, i am still pleased that everything else works fine and in good shape. the clock display has no burnt out lights and when adjusted to maximum brightness it cannot be ignored in a dark room at all. the FM/AM needle seems to be precise. the sound projects great. no major external or internal damage to the best of my knowledge. a solid piece of equipment that i am happy to place and use on my nightstand.
