Fantastically versatile
2 of 2 found this helpful Among it's many other uses, I use Sodium Bicarbonate as a pH buffer for my koi pond. With a pH value of 8.6 making it impossible to overdose in the event of any miscalculation or spillage in the pond, this means I can guarantee a stable pH value within the safe range for koi. Buying in bulk means I have it on hand whenever I need it and always have plenty to spare for those other occasions where sodium bicarb works as a "miracle" substance for anything from baking to cleaning and polishing and from banishing bad smells to killing weeds on your drive!

Sony Handycam HDR-XR520 Camcorder - Which? Best Buy
I'm no photographer and until recently would not have considered spending £750 on a camcorder no matter how good it was supposed to be. However, I was getting frustrated with the limited quality of the video feature on my old Fuji Finepix S8000 (as good as that product is for the price) and found myself wanting to upgrade to something entirely more suited to the task. Now, the chaps at the Consumer watchdog Which? have tested loads of cameras and the Sony Handycam HDR-XR520 came out as best of a good bunch in their last test, so that was the one I went for. I've only used it once so far and that was to film a close relative playing cricket at the weekend. We played it back on the PC when we got home and I was blown away! The colour reproduction is excellent and the built in image stabilisation kept everything pretty smooth even as I filmed on the move. The still photograph mode is easy to switch to/from and takes excellent pictures. Like any bloke, I didn't read the instructions and so had to spent a bit of time finding my way around the menu on the touchpad screen - deleting unwanted images took a bit of doing but is actually pretty easy. I charged up the battery before I set off and after filming and zooming in/out all while messing with the menu, it was still going strong after 3hrs and told me I still had another 90mins remaining!! I found that filming using the screen viewer was a bit tricky in bright sunlight but this camera has a viewfinder that mades it a piece of cake to get the frame exactly right. All in all, I'm really pleased with the results. Certainly worth the dosh I paid for it (£750).
