Excellent value for money from unhyped quality brand.
I spent many weeks scanning Ebay before choosing this model. I am very satisfied. I feel all domestic espresso machines have limited lifespan in general. Unless you want to spend £250 plus on 2nd hand semi-commercial or high spec domestic model it is not worth going over £70. These other machines also need regular servicing and some need to be kept on for making over 10 cups a day, they are slow to warm up. I wanted one to use occassionally, making a cup or 2 at a time. I got mine for £50 in Dec 10. I was tempted by the Gaggias but like Francis Francis they are hyped and the prices inflated to between £100 and £200. I recently had a Kitchenaid that cost £250 2nd hand 2 years ago, they cost over £500 new but it died due to a leaking boiler (made by Gaggia). The buttons were rubbish too. Magimix is a quality French kitchen small appliance brand with excellent reliability. Not being Italian or specialist Espresso machine brand seems to put some people off. But they are missing a trick. It was sold new for only £129 at John Lewis from 2007 so a bargain from new. The brita filter stops calcium clogging and avoids servicing. The 19 bar pressure ensures fuller extraction compared to the standard 12-15 bar.It heats up in about 30 seconds and the frother is also quick and easy to clean. The only criticism is having to remove the tray to fit taller mugs, but this pulls out with ease.

Gaggia Coffee Machine Filter Holder Handle Gaggia 996530037144

It's a genuine Gaggia handle, I get through one about every 2 years, its a hard plastic that seems to go brittle over time. I reinforce the filler end
It's a genuine Gaggia handle, I get through one about every 2 years, its a hard plastic that seems to go brittle over time. I reinforce the filler end around the flange with black gaffer/duct tape. The stress point is on the left due to tightening to the right as you attach it to the machine. I'll try reducing the need to tighten so much by using a smaller dose so it goes on easier - but I might get the 'Coffee DTs' initially!

Seriously Good Value Hi-fi & Highly Tunable - Fantastic In Two Speaker Stereo Pairing Mode
This is a fantastic used buy (Bought Jan 2023). So affordable now that I bought two 1st Gen A1s to have paired L & R dedicated channel stereo! Uneconomic to do new but a steal for around 2 x 35% new price for 4 -5 year old for Gen 1s (2016-19), or 2 x 50% new price for Gen 2 (2020-). The reviews rate the Gen 2 more user friendly but some prefer the slightly deeper bass of the Gen 1 as its purely mono rather than twin tweeters for 'stereo' but you really need them a few feet apart for proper stereo anyway. Both must be the same Generation of course. Still great in single mono use though. I'd give it 4.5 stars if possible, as the Beoplay iPhone app is a bit clunky for pairing but does work. You may prefer to use physical wiring (A few £s for an iPhone to 3.5mm connector & stereo to L&R 2m cable), for a lossless music connection, only on the 1st Gen though as 2nd Gen has no 3.5mm socket but there may be work-arounds using the USB-C sockets instead. The 'Coup de Gras' is the customisable 'Sound Modes' option in the app, with bass & treble management like tone controls on a home stereo amp. I tone down the bass for loud use and up it a little compared to the default 'Optimal' for low volume listening. Best suited to indoor use rather than the ubitquitous publicity shot cliche 'Pool Parties' but hey, I don't have a pool just a tub and it kicks real a*se in my tiled bathroom!
