Great RPG for the SNES
This is a classic RPG from way back in the day. The Ultima series is classically known as a great PC series but a few of the installments were ported to consoles. This is installment 6 of the story. Its actually a pretty good port. The color and sound are actually better than the original. Unfortunately two things cause this game to be not as good as the PC version. 1: the game was compressed to fit onto the SNES cart. In order to do this the programmers had to removing things like character portraits, some of the intro, party size reduced from 8 to 6, etc. Little things you probably wont miss unless you played the PC version. 2: Nintendo censorship. Nintendo had a blacklist of words and images that could not appear in their games. This unfortunately can take away from the plot. There are a few things that were censored from this game that made it a little better. Despite its flaws this truly is a good game. The in game world is enormous with plenty of places to explore, an interesting plot, and side quests to fill many hours of enjoyable game play. I heartily recommend this game to anyone looking for a good RPG on the SNES. The only person I would not recommend this to is someone who has played the PC version and would be disappointed seeing anything (no matter how small) taken out.

Cool but PC version is much better
I like this game but Nintendo really did a number on it. It is severely compressed. I think the game was originally about 20MB and they made it fit in a 1MB Cart. They took out a lot of the bells and whistles that the PC version had. Here are some examples: No party option - main character travels alone, 16 spells instead of 72 spells, world map shrunk significantly, etc. In addition, Nintendo censored many things out of the game: No blood, killings turned into kidnappings without explanation, etc. This game is unfortunately rare which makes it semi-expensive. You probably don't want to get this version unless there's no way you could play the PC game. Even then there are better RPGs for the SNES. This game would probably be enjoyable for someone who likes RPGs but isn't necessarily a big Ultima fan. I would strongly suggest that anyone who is a big Ultima fan or who has played the PC version to read this website before purchasing http://ultima.wikia.com/wiki/SNES-Port_of_Ultima_VII *Warning: May contain spoilers* This site lists all of the major and many of the minor changes to the game. Bottom Line: It may not be a bad game but it doesn't compare to its PC counterpart.
