Excellent Companian to the Grammar
THIS ITEM IS A WORKBOOK DESIGNED TO GO WITH ITS ACCOMPANYING GRAMMAR. THIS REVIEW FIRST DEALS WITH THE GRAMMAR AND THEN HOW THE WORKBOOK COMPLEMENTS IT.
I purchased the grammar after having used Kelley's "Biblical Hebrew: An Introductory Grammar", which is also an excellent resource. The strength of this grammar, however, is that it takes a more analytical and deductive approach than Kelley. In particular, it gives closer attention to pointing than other introductory grammars I know, and lays a solid foundation for the student who wishes to progress to the level of composition.
The Workbook is based on a series of "drills". The approach taken by the author is that of intense repition to ensure that the content becomes ingrained, almost second-nature. Anyone who has spent considerable time studying an ancient language can testify to the importance of being thoroughly acquainted with its forms and rules. I find the author's method to be highly effective.
If you are serious about learning Biblical Hebrew thoroughly and wish to understand how the language works, I heartily recommend the grammar and this Workbook which accompanies it (sold separately).
