Samsung V25 2.4ghz laptop
Needed a basic laptop and didn't want to spend much. Used V25's at work in the past so I opted for the 'devil I know'. These are heavy and chunky laptops and more than a little old fashoned, but for basic surfing and 'word' etc they are okay. The Celeron processor models are real slugs so try and get a Pentium 2.4 or 2.8 version with a 15 inch (instead of 14.5) screen. Mine has 500mb of ram...they will take 1000mb but that will set you back around £100 new so not really economically viable to upgrade a sixty quid second hand laptop! One easy upgrade you can do is a larger hard drive...the standard seems to be 30gb...but conveniently, the drive is in a detachable 'caddy', so fitting a much larger drive is an option. My V25 has a dvd reader cd writer combined drive that is slow but adequate.
As far as reliability, the V25 seems to have screen issues...seeing the number that come up ‘spares or repair’ on e bay with non functioning displays. Hinges are prone to crack and the screen to motherboard graphics ribbon fails.
All in all, a fair buy for a student or someone who needs a 'cheap and cheerful' laptop that handles Windows XP and they can treat as disposable.

If you have a dim screen ... just buy one!
If you have a 5x4 large format camera that has only a dim ground glass screen ... I have a MPP Mk 5 that was so dark it was almost unusable in all but the brightest conditions ... you need one of these! I mounted mine the easy way, behind the ground glass ( with the MPP isn't easy to mount it on the lens side), even with less than optimal placement the difference in brightness and evenness across the image was stunning -probably the equivalent of two plus stops. for the price this is must have. Delivery was very quick considering how far it had to come too!

second hand DC07 Animal
1 of 1 found this helpful We’ve got four cats and two horses .... the floor gets smothered in pet hair and woodchip bedding and our seventeen year old Electrolux upright was not even touching the mess. I was having to laboriously strip the hair from the carpets and furniture with a rubber brush! We bought a Dyson DC07 Animal second hand for a shade over forty quid (bargain) without tools .... but then they are easy and cheap to come across on e bay. This is the first Dyson I have handled and I was surprised by the build quality ... the down side of that is that it’s quite a bulky beast. Once we had worked out how to put the bits together ... ours came with no manual ... I got down to testing. First impressions? Fantastic! Gathers all the hair and rubbish with ease and is really light to push. Loads of spares are available for these cleaners so keeping them in tip top nick should be easy. Does what it says on the tin ...supremely good at picking up the detritus left by our animals.
