One of the best 35mm lenses available
4 of 4 found this helpful This lens has superb picture quality and build quality. Asside from the IS Mk II version this is probably one of the all time best 35mm lenses ever made.
The only downsides are that is is heavy and sometimes a bit too good, I know that sounds crazy, but for portraits and glamor work you need something a bit softer and more forgiving. That said you can always photoshop detail out but you can put it back if it isn't there.
Buy this lens secondhand with extreme caution, it is bought and sold by two types of photographer. The keen amateur, who feels he needs it but never actually uses it because it is too big, and the professional who uses it all day every day in all weathers. I am the latter and I have worn out a couple, it takes a while but it is possible.
Therefore examples are either absolutely mint or completely worn out It always amazes me that both extremes seem to fetch similar prices. If there is any sign of paint missing or worn, especially around the tripod mount, avoid. If the optics aren't perfect, avoid. This lens is environmentally sealed, if there is any dust inside the barrel it is bits of the mechanism that have worn off, avoid.

Rubbish
They sent me two, both were not put together properly. The quality is just awful, the metal clips that are supposed to hold the wires are not made of spring steel so they just bend on first use.
