More or less perfect guitar
1 of 1 found this helpful I'd been looking for a parlour 12-string guitar for a while, and at the Viator on and off for a few months. It gets mixed reviews, but many say that initial problems are solved by getting the guitar set up properly. At such a low price for a quality instrument, you have to take the rough with the smooth, so I was prepared to get it set up. If you're spending a grand, maybe, you might have cause to complain about a generic set up.
I have no complaints about it - maybe I'm lucky. I opened the packaging, and was able to play from the off.
Richtone Music said the guitar would arrive 3 days later, and it did. Amazing service. The guitar was well packed for transit.
It's even smaller than I thought it was, at an overall length of 90CM - about the same length as my Yamaha traveller guitar. When I saw just how small it is, I guessed it wasn't going to have that really big 12-string sound, but it does pretty well, I think. With the longer head, it looks a little like one of those South American instruments used in Mariachi.
It comes fully strung, of course, and with possibly the best-looking gig bag I've ever seen, with the guitar's name embroidered in brass-colored thread on it. The electrics are kind of basic, but work fine. I've now tried it through a 50W amp and a small PA system, and it's nice and clear, and responds well to effects. I was slightly disappointed not to have a built-in tuner - a 12-string could really do with one - but, again, you get what you pay for.
If it's not obvious, I recommend this guitar, and I also recommend Richtone as a seller - I'll definitely deal with them again.
Now I just need to buy a house with a parlour.

Versatile light fitting
It works well to turn any light (that goes into a ceiling socket) into a security light. It has a few different modes, so worth reading the instructions (and not junking them at once, as most people, including me, seem to do) to get it to go on a low light, for use maybe as a nightlight. Good piece of kit, and good value.

Not fawlty goods
2 of 2 found this helpful Sometimes I think it's not worth having something like Fawlty Towers, as "it's always on TV". Then I realised I hadn't seen any of the episodes for years, as I'm really not a big TV watcher. It also bugged me that there was one episode I'd never seen, despite it coming out over 30 years ago - worth waiting for (almost). I wish more comedy series writers and producers took note of Fawlty Towers, and stopped after 2 series, once the original creativity was gone: Ricky Gervais has done it with The Office and Extras, but most comedy series that go into series 3 are really not funny anymore. In fact, having now watched the whole 2 series in about a week, I think it's plain that the second series was already showing the strain, and was a bit weaker. I think Fawlty Towers captured a part of British life in the 70s that was at a very important turning point, before punk and the attitudes from it that changed society (often for the better but sometimes for the worse), and before everybody got too knowing, cynical, politically correct and post-modern. Not to be too serious about it, it also has great slapstick comedy, tight plots that move quickly, and some great gags that border on the surreal (Manuel inadvertently making the moose head talk to the major, Basil's breakfast conversation with the dead man). In short, there'll never be anything quite like Fawlty Towers again, so I'd recommend anybody to buy it.
