A New Direction for Black Sabbath
We all know the Ozzy era of Black Sabbath, and many or most of us know about Ronnie James Dio on the vocals, as well. But, Sabbath has featured, over the years, some other vocalists, as they do on TYR. Tony Martin takes over the front man position in Sabbath for this album, and the band goes in a more power metal direction. While not well known among Sabbath's recordings, TYR features some of their strongest post-Dio material. Martin's vocals fit well with the music, and make this a memorable album. While it probably isn't their best album, whether judging by overall musicianship or innovation, it's still a solid offering from the great Black Sabbath. On another note, many listeners of this album cite an important distinction between the releases by Capital and EMI. Apparently, while the EMI reissue is described as "remastered," it is anything but, and the sound quality is worse.
