Eastman e1d
I have been on a quest to replace my Dreadnought and comparing quite a few high end guitars in the last few weeks (Eastman, Collings, Guild, Martin...) and have been blown away by Eastman guitars, no least by the e1d. Eastman produce high quality handmade guitars in China that compete with the names mentioned above from around £1,000 and up (e8d, e10d, e20d...), which I was originally going to do. Then I compared the e20d to this one and, yes there are obvious differences in dynamics, volume and tone but for £500 you get a lot of guitar. The tone is rich and balanced with lovely bass and complex mids and trebles. The guitar is loud and dynamic, lovely for strumming and fingerpicking. The note separation is also very good and attention to detail is fantastic. You don’t get any bling but solid wood all around which makes the guitar so resonant and alive. The neck is lovely with nice edge purfling, ebony fretboard, bone nut and saddle and very neat fretwork. Definitely one to try!
