Gives the FT60 handheld a new lease of life
1 of 1 found this helpful After yet another NiMh battery pack showed signs of failing; it was time to try out Li-Ion technology. This product had appeared since the last unsuccessful search and it seems a very good replacement. The case style is identical (even VS logo present) and the capacity was 2400mAh instead of the 2200mAh advertised. When attached to the FT60, the difference in weight is surprising - if you didn't already know how good the radio is, it might now seem too light and plasticky (but much less burden to slow you down when out on the hills).
I am only on the first charge and have not done any lengthy transmission yet but short tests are promising. It is likely that I will buy a spare for long days out.
The only improvement I would make would be to add a rubber cover for the charge port.

Useful addition to car DIY toolkit
For a low cost device, my expectations were not high. However, it displayed 3 fault codes - 2 which I had not considered on my vehicle. The data stream was useful for showing MAP and O2 sensors functioning, saving me from needlessly replacing suspected parts so it paid for itself. Of the 19 data stream pages, only 7 populated but this is likely to be due to my older vehicle not having the features the reader was searching for. When I eventually took the car to a mechanic, he hooked up his reader and it showed 5 fault codes which he could also tell were temporary/inermittent. That was more informative but it did cost about £2500.

Much clearer than the stock protector
Fitting the protector to the phone was easier than expected. Once in place, the screen was much clearer than the original plastic film that came with the kit. Take time to align it carefully, as it is the full length of the phone. I placed mine a fraction too high and the gel case sometimes catches under a top edge, threatening to lift it off. Air bubbles were avoided by flexing the screen slightly before contact, then easing the edges down last.
