Useful zoom
I've only had this lens 2 weeks so I haven't tried it in many situations, though first impressions are that its good value for money, certainly sharp enough at both ends of the zoom range for general photography, though tried flower close-ups and its not as good as a true macro lens, but then wouldn't have expected that in this price range.
It's described as un-boxed and I can see no fault other than the rubber grip on the focussing ring, appears to be movable as it was skew whiff when I had it, but this doesn't affect the manual adjustment, mostly I will be using AF in any case. Overall this is a very useful zoom that doesn't cost a lot and doesn't weigh too heavy around your neck !

A useful compact converter
First of all, the picture shown here is not the item I bought, the Pentax converter A 1.4x-S is actually only half the size of this beast.
However, I needed a 1.4x converter which would work with my Pentax 300mm DA lens, I already possess a 1.7x which works fine. I have tried a Kenko 2x which had a compatibility problem with my K-R, so wanted to buy a Pentax converter for 35mm format rather than an independent make.
I thought they didn't exist until I discovered this one on E-bay so I was over the moon when I saw it. At £104 + duty it was a bit expensive but then you get what you pay for and the picture quality of this lens is excellent so worth the extra.
The only downside is the auto-focus doesn't appear to work, all the contacts are present so not sure whats wrong, but then I normally use manual focusing when photographing birds.
Overall I am very happy with this lens, there are no quality issues and I only lose 1 aperture stop with an effective 400mm lens.
