Where it all started
Way back when Pathfinder was a 3.0 setting, Darkmoon Vale was the home base for characters starting their adventuring careers. This book would be their travel guide and basic background for any native PCs. Once Pathfinder became a game of its own and the world expanded, this book was superseded. The way books were written, early in the product line, is different from the current version and comparing the two is fascinating.

More than just a gazetteer.
This is the core setting book. Rulebooks are great, but without understanding the setting they are applied to, they're just math.

Unnecessary accessory
The information on the inside covers for reference is a little helpful but the GM Screen's version is better.
No permissions are given to photocopy the actual character sheets and there is only a single copy of each page. Who wants to write in their book?
Over the course of multiple campaigns, you would either need lots of erasing or multiple folios and they're not a good enough value for that. It is a book for completionists, not players.
