'Difficult To Cure' is just what the doctor ordered!
'Difficult To Cure', Joe Lynn Turner's vocal debut with Rainbow is an album I'd not heard in decades, not since owning it on vinyl as a teen.
With this, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore led his band away from the "castle rock" heard in the Dio years and into a more streamlined AOR direction.
Highlights include the memorable Russ Ballard penned hit 'I Surrender', 'Spotlight Kid' with its choppy riff and classical soloing from keyboardist Don Airey and the rockin 'Cant Happen Here', a cautionary environmental warning no less pertinent today, some four decades on.
Fans expecting grandiose neo-classicism will not be disappointed by the title track, a fleet fingered reworking of Beethoven's Ninth, which still thrills, sounding magnificent on this digital remaster.
I'd like to have seen the original album packaging fully restored, but I guess Deep Purple's recorded legacy is far more worthy of the full treatment than the Rainbow canon.
Many were bemused when Rainbow adopted a slicker, Americanised AOR style as they entered the '80s.
However, when listened to on individual merit, this and subsequent releases ('Straight Between The Eyes', 'Bent Out Of Shape') by Ritchie Blackmore and his ever changing band, are chock-full of well crafted, beautifully played adult orientated rock tunes.
Just don't expect too many spiralling eight minute epics about building towers for wizards, that's all.

Great Star Trek curio
A very interesting curio, collecting together vintage British Star Trek comic strips published before the sci-fi classic had been aired in the UK.
Highly recommended!

A historic concert recording by the original Alice Cooper
There are dozens of poor quality releases of songs from this concert out there, but none of them are as complete and comprehensive as this live document.
Recommended not just for Alice Cooper completists, but also to anyone who loves thrilling psychedelic, theatrical rock.
