A Living History Lesson
I saw this movie a year ago and finally had to own a copy of it. One thing that makes this movie great is the interviews with those who lived the history. It gave me a clearer feeling of the various types of people who helped form this "one big union." As a folk musician I especially enjoyed all the great Wobbly songs; the DVD has seperate listings for the songs and, if I recall correctly, the lyrics as well.
History as it it taught in our schools tend to give little attention to the labor movement and pretty much ignores the Wobblies. This film reminds of how so many benefits that we take for granted came from the struggles of labor unions, and how the Wobblies both directly and indirectly shaped the face of labor.

A Great Guide for Basic Skills
I must admit that I bought this book with some reservations. It would be very easy to take theis subject either too seriously or too lightly. Chelsea Cain has struck just the right tone with this book. There are light-hearted moments, such as the section on how to dance like a hippie, but there are also some very serious and important skills presented, like how to build a compost pile and how to care for Birkenstocks. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to relive the 60's, experience the 60's for the first time, or just enjoy a carefree life.

In His Own Words
I have read several biographies of Pete Seeger, a man who has been a hero of mine since the 1960's. As much as I know Pete's music and his story it was great to hear his views on music, life, politics, and the music business. It was also interesting to note that this book was published in 1972 and to realize all that Pete has done since that time. There are times when Seeger comes across as a bit of a curmudgeon, and sometimes he seems a bit too sure of himself, but it presents Pete Seeger not as an icon or an idol but as a flesh and blood person. I was happy to finally own and read this book.
