Small but Mighty

This colorful illustrate history of Barbie and Ken's outfits and clothing is great fun. Barbie's role as a nurse and flight attendant morph into her becoming a pilot and doctor. The fashions for the dolls mirror their time -- from the elegant late 1950s to the fringe and boho hippie era to all the weird kind of sporty stuff my kid was wearing when she was playing with her Barbie dolls. Great fun and good graphics. Plus, an introduction by Ruth Handler, the creator of the Barbie and Ken dolls.

The beauitful art of Hashimoto

I visited the home, garden and studio of this Japanese artist in Kyoto. It was a highlight of my visit. Hashimoto's paintings of animals and landscape --inspired by his many visits to China in the early years of the 20th century--I found so beautiful, so peaceful, so soulful and energetic at the same time. Thrilled to see more of his work in this catalog.
