A recorder for personal or lecture use
I found a need for a recorder for lectures on a six-month Diploma course. Buying new seemed excesive, but eBay had pages of appropriate equipment to choose from. This Olympus model has proven to be a wise choice - its software is so easy you barely need the instructions (just as well, as they are mostly on pdf, not paper) and the build quality is top-notch. Better yet, Olympus' desktop application is also reliable and fully cross-platform, so it's an excellent partner for my Mac. The recordings are astonishin clear and precise - my last experience of dictaphones was with tape models 10 yr ago; the digital revolution in this marketplace is complete. I expected to sell this again at the end of the course, but with a range of microphones, compact size, excellent build and ease of use it looks like a keeper.

Full-time manual focussing
Well-built
Long enough not to disturb critters
Sharp edge to edge - it is an L-series, after all
Good aperture range
Image stabilised - excellent
Cons
Sometimes a little long on an APS-C body (but manageable)
Can be slow if focussing all the way from close-infinity (Canon have added a focus limiter to minimise this, or just spin the barrel manually).
Summary
An excellent Macro and reasonable portrait lens, the latter also excellent if used on a full-sized sensor. Recommended.

Quality correlates with price - perfectly reasonable
Comes disassembled, ie head and handle separate and only held together by friction. Metal cast is 'scruffy', but this is not unreasonable and overall quality is entirely commensurate with the very reasonable price.
Functionally, it's a Mattock; you either don't need instructions or are seriously shopping for the wrong thing.
