The Charlatans : Songs From The Other Side CD (2002)

The Other Side of Brilliance

For me, the Charlatans can do no wrong. However, these are B sides (we are talking the 90-97 period here), so whilst some of the tracks are as good as anything they have done, some are tending towards a slightly more experimental direction (no bad thing), some come across as fillers. No tragedy if you like the Charlatans sound, but not a consistently 100% album. Well worth getting, though.

Not as in the photo.

Maybe I'm being naive. But when I see a logo in the photograph, I expect it to be on the device in real life, i.e. not a trace of Cameron Security and the yellow and blue logo. Furthermore, the blue flashing light is a bit weak. As my builder was not going to come back to install a replacement should I have returned it, it had to go up as is. So, would I recommend it? No, but purely because the photo is deceptive. Others will have to be the judge as to whether it is good value or not. I'd give it a yes for good quality as it works ok.

Classic album on vinyl - great value for money

This album has sold 5 million copies for a reason. When it came out in 1959, it was not only a seminal moment in jazz, with a move towards modality away from a be pop style, but at the same time a bonafide crossover hit. The tracks are unique, original and accessible; the composition, arrangements and playing peerless. Now out of copyright (I presume), this is not a Columbia reissue, but the quality of the 180 gsm is excellent. All in all, a great listening experience.
