Great - used on rusty bike tank
For someone else's benefit:
- I used this oxalic acid to dissolve the rust out of a RUSTY(!) ~13 litre motorcycle petrol tank. GREAT SUCCESS!!
Method:
- IMPORTANT: get as much loose rust out as possible by rinsing with petrol
- Seal the petcock hole - I screwed a plate over the hole using some old rubber glove as a gasket
- Use the entire 500g of acid (maybe still a bit weak in this application) and fill to the brim with boiling water (don't breathe!)
- I then wrapped it to keep in the heat and left for ~24h
- Neutralise acid with a LOT of bicarbonate of soda (I used all I had ~200g?... nowhere near enough!)
- Empty tank through petcock hole.. wear gloves.
- Rinse tank with water then dry AS FAST AS POSSIBLE to avoid flash rusting. I used a hair dryer.
